MY WORK
I love what I do and I would like to think it shows in my work.
I’ve often thought things would be easier with out the late nights, the extra miles, the blood, sweat and tears, but I’m just as likely to turn into a 6 foot 5 runway model with legs up to her armpits as I am to ever be able to give it up. It’s just not in my D.N.A.
Because of this I work particularly well with small to medium-size businesses and individuals who have the same drive and appreciate working with someone who want’s to see their business succeed as much as they do.
I am madly passionate about all things relating to print, but I admit this turns into obsession with books and magazines. There is nothing quite like the feeling of completing one – the excitement of flicking though the pages, the fresh smell of printing ink, and the satisfying thump they make when you set them down on the desk. It’s an achievement that arrives in trophy-like-form when it is complete, ready for display on the bookshelf for admiration by all.
I’m however, just as happy toiling away on the unglamorous jobs that require a high level of technical accuracy – like recreating eps files for your logo when you can only find a jpg, or building new forms from a PDF when the original file has been lost! Because of this I enjoy a relationship with a number of printing companies who out-source their specialist design work and also standard design jobs when their designers need help with over-flow.
OTHER DISTRACTIONS
I find the tricky thing about being a creative person is it doesn’t suddenly turn itself off at 5pm, for weekends or public holidays. The ideas just keep coming – which I could just about deal with if the compulsion to act on them wasn’t so strong!
I’m currently keeping myself out of trouble restoring a 1970’s Sprite Alpine caravan, which I will be giving a modern, luxury twist with an entirely new interior and new exterior colour. It’s an exciting process designing completely new cabinetry and, what I hope will be, a well thought- out way to deal with the table and sleeping area which can seem a bit cluttered in older vans.
I’m setting my sights on having it completed and on the road this summer for a bit of glamping with my husband!
I’m also restoring (with the help of some talented local craftsmen) a 1920’s G J Lines rocking horse, which I stumbled across on Trademe. I never truly appreciated the craftsmanship that goes into creating these old horses until I stripped all the paint off and then had to reapply it all.
There is also a board game and a bespoke collection cushions for the caravan on the horizon …. when I get the time.
